I'd done the kitchen cabinets first thing, toning down that dated maple finish. After I'd done finishes and a bit of art in the baths, the client felt comfortable with doing something different in the breakfast area and kitchen.
I pulled off the chair rail and wallpaper, did a skip trowel texture, and painted the area. Yesterday, I chalked in the design, filling the one wall in the space, and as a border on the fir downs on the other walls. Today, I worked at refining the design and began sketching it in sepia.
I want the "planter" to be substantial looking and realistic, the vines will be lighter and more whimsical, with subdued colors. The texture will help me give an aged weathered appearance more easily than with some techniques.
