Paper, scissors, tape at the ready... it's a project for the school holidays
Christmas is coming, and Sainsbury's has stocked Goose Fat,
Delia says we need it, and who will argue with that.
With a double oven ready and Turkey-foil in the drawer,
Time to ready the kindling, to hear the fire roar.
We're hosting the Christmas dinner, and want to show our style,
With homemade Christmas crackers, we're sure to win by miles.
Yes it's time for singing, and silly rhymes and at H&D magazine we didn't want to be left out! So here is a very simple H&D Make project for your family 'Make Team' - get the sticky-back plastic at the ready.
You will need:
- Empty toilet or kitchen roll tubes, 1 for each cracker
- Wrapping paper/tissue paper etc
- Thin ribbon
- Glue stick or sticky tape
- Paper/card and pen
- A small present or object to fit inside.
Instructions to make homemade Christmas crackers:
- Lay out your wrapping paper, design side down on the table
- Lay your cardboard tube on top and cut out a rectangle big enough to wrap around the tube and be glued down, plus enough space at the ends to make the tails of the cracker (about 7-10cm, we can then trim the ends)
- Take you paper/card and pen and we're oing to write the message to be included inside. This could be a joke, a top-tip, a famous quote, or even a prayer - it's up to you, but this is quite a nice personal touch. If you want you could even personalise the message for your guests, just make sure you know which cracker is for which person!
- Place the message and the small gift inside the tube and then roll the wrapping paper around the cardboard tube until you can glue/tape down the edge.
- Next twist the ends of the paper where the cardboard tube finishes to make the tails of the cracker. Secure these with the ribbon.
- Finally trim the ends so it looks neat and tidy.
- Stand back and admire
